Day 3 - Thurs
- W.A.C. Bennett Dam Impact - Indigenous Perspective Link to Video
Focus on the following ideas when watching the video above
- the interconnectedness of everything in the Earth System.
***Consider how flooding from the dam affected the biosphere and the geosphere as well as the hydrosphere!
-how indigenous people utilized the land before the dam and the short and long-term impact of the dam on their lives, livelihood and culture.
**Think about how the indigenous people used features in their environment to survive and the impact the dam had on these things, their way of life and their homes then and today.**
** How the continuous need for resources like energy, land, wood, minerals, impact the livelihood and culture of people living in the vicinity of areas used to extract these resources. - Reflection- after viewing video- Respond to the two questions that relate to the ideas above:
1. How did creation of the Bennett Dam which caused a river to transform into a llarge reservoir impact the indigenous communities living in the vicinity of the Dam? 2. How has the creation this dam changed and impacted the biosphere, geosphere and hydrosphere? Describe sphere interactions as part of reflection. - Begin lesson on Energy flow in Ecosystem -day 4

- Quiz next class study!
Due to limited time the final project will be skipped!
- How have humans impacted the Earth System? - in groups of two or three create a short slide show presentation
- 4-8 slides focusing on one way humans have negatively impacted the Earth System
- Use labelled images and limit writing! If presented, the slide show would take 2 to 3 minutes to share and would be
visually engaging with a balance between written words and pictures!
-Use the library digital resources for recent more relevant articles on these issues
-Video's on YouTube are also great resources!
-Due to limited time - copy and paste websites url's you use onto the last slide in your presentation.
- Complete the slide show in google classroom and share slide show with your group so all able to collaborate .
-Presentation must be completed and submitted on google classroom before Friday's class!
1) Explain the issue/problem
2) Discuss human actions/activities that have caused the issue and the negative effects on the Earth System.
3) Describe future steps/actions which could be taken to reduce impact or that are more sustainable
- Comp 6- (Communicate and Collaborate) - I can clearly communicate ideas, findings, and solutions to problems in different ways.
- Earth 4 - I can explain how humans impact the Earth System and describe more sustainable actions to reduce impact.

- Last full class to work on Project! Upload completed version to classroom by end of day on Monday!
APA How do I create a list of references?
The following website gives examples for all types of sources in APA format.
List of sources must be typed and submitted in slide show or as handout for videos
How to cite in APA format : link
On line Owl Purdue Citation Machine Link
https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html
Quick Rules for an APA Reference List
Slide show or Prezi ends with a cited list of all the sources used in writing the paper. Plus a labeled list of URL addresses for all images used.
- Start a new page for your Reference list. Centre the title, "References", at the top of the page.
- Double-space the list.
- Start the first line of each reference at the left margin; indent each subsequent line five spaces (a hanging indent).
- Put your list in alphabetical order. Alphabetize the list by the first word in the reference. In most cases, the first word will be the author’s last name. Where the author is unknown, alphabetize by the first word in the title, ignoring the words a, an, the.
- For each author, give the last name followed by a comma and the first (and middle, if listed) initials followed by periods.
- Italicize the titles of works: books, audiovisual material, internet documents and newspapers, and the title and volume number of journals and magazines.
- Do not italicize titles of parts of works, such as: articles from newspapers, magazines, or journals / essays, poems, short stories or chapter titles from a book / chapters or sections of an Internet document.
- In titles of non-periodicals (books, videotapes, websites, reports, poems, essays, chapters, etc), capitalize only the first letter of the first word of a title and subtitle, and all proper nouns (names of people, places, organizations, nationalities).
- If more than one place of publication is listed give the publisher's home office. If the home office is not given or known then choose the first location listed.
